Sirivennela Sitarama Shastry has been conferred the Padma Shri by the honorable President, Ramnath Kovind today in Rashtrapathy Bhavan in Delhi.
On the occasion of the 70th republic day, Padma awards were declared to 112 personalities in India. Telugu famous lyricist, Sirivennela has been awarded the fourth highest civilian award, Padma Shri on this occasion. His student, Ramajogayya Shastry brought the news to the audience through a tweet.
Shastry has bagged 11 Nandi award in the past, setting a record of winning these consecutively in 1986, 1987 and 1988. Inspired by K Viswanath’s ‘Sankarabharanam’, this lyricist first wrote his first poetry under the pen name ‘Bharani’. He first wrote lyrics for K Viswanath’s Janani Janmabhoomi in 1984 and was given the referral as Sirivennela after writing songs Sirivennela n 1986.
The other famous personalities that were given Padma Shri today from Andhra Pradesh were Chess player Harika Dronvalli and Venkateswara Rao Yadlapalli, an agriculturist.
